Renowned Israeli author Mr. Amir Or visited the Jewish Cultural Center ,,Arie Livne”

Amir OrOn November 10, 2016 in the Cultural center Banski dvor, Israeli author Mr. Amir Or was given an award ,,European Atlas of Lyrics’’, which is awarded for the 3rd year in a row by the publisher ,,Kuća poezije” and the Association of literary translators of Banjaluka with the same name. The president of the jury was the writer Ms. Fiona Samspon from London, and admirers of poetry and prose had a chance to spend some time with our eminent writers: Vida Ognjenović, Biserka Rajčić, Tanja Kragujević, Gojko Božović, Milenko Stojičić, Zdravko Kecman and Minja Golubović.
Fiona SampsonAfter the award ceremony Mr. Amir Or and Ms. Fona Samspon have visited the Jewish Cultural Center ,,Arie Livne”, where they had a non-formal conversation with Mr. Đorđe Mikeš, the president of the Center, who introduced the guests with Center’s history and activities. Also, the guests visited Illona Weiss Synagogue. Mr. Or expressed his delight when it comes to Center’s organization and its work, but most importantly with the fact that in this area exists an institution which has an aim to preserve the tradition and cultural heritage of Jewish people and also to promote different cultures.

Israeli poet, essayist, editor and world renowned translator, Mr. Amir Or was born in Tel Aviv in 1956. During his youth he was a shepherd, builder and restaurateur and after all of that he studied philosophy and comparative religion at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he lectured the religion of Ancient Greece later on. He taught poetry at universities in Israel, Great Britain and Japan. He is the author of 11 poetry books, and his poems are translated into more than 30 languages. Mr. Or is the founder and editor of publishing house "Helicon Society, Israel" and the founder of the poetry festival ,,Sha’ar International Poetry Festival’’.
He is the member of EACWP (European Association of Creative Writing Programs) and national coordinator for the U.N. sponsored UPC venture, “Poets for Peace.”
